Clive Vernon A.F.A.

Clive is an Incorporated Financial Accountant and is the principal of the firm. He has been in the accountancy profession for over thirty years and consequently has a wide range of experience, including four years as Finance Director of a local private group of companies and many years as a small business and taxation adviser. In the office he has a strong empathy with the varied client base but, when "off duty", he has the misfortune to be a lifelong fan of Tottenham Hotspur FC! Apart from virtually all sports, his other interests include music - including singing occasionally! - and creative writing (for fun at the moment but still hoping to be published!).

Liz Vernon

Liz is the firm's Practice Manager with responsibility for internal administration and organisation. Having worked in the caring profession of nursing for many years, and held a variety of senior posts, she has smoothly transferred her organisational skills to the very different arena of business. She has travelled extensively and has lived in Singapore and Australia as well as Perth, Elgin and Aberdeen in her native Scotland. Liz holds the National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health. Away from the office, she enjoys socialising in the company of good friends and is also keen on music, reading, various creative arts and tackling The Times crossword!

James Gosling

James joined Vernon Associates in 2003 and is a key member of the team. He is responsible for managing the daily work flow in the office and does so with his own empathy for the clients, which is the hallmark of the firm. James has recently qualified as a Certified Accountant. In his spare time James is another keen follower of most sports and, when not studying for exams, has also recently been busy renovating his first house. He is a keen fan of Liverpool FC, which might be a question mark against his sporting judgement!

John Robertson F.C.A.

John is a Chartered Accountant with many years' experience who, like Clive, has worked in commerce as well as the profession. Having qualified with a professional Practice, John was Finance Director with a manufacturing company until 2003, following which he preferred to use his experience to help and work on behalf of other small businesses. John's main hobby is as a member - and Treasurer - of Woodley Light Operatic Society. The Society's two or three productions per year are always well supported but he hasn't yet been persuaded to sing in the office...!

Ryan Millward

Cardiff University graduate Ryan joined the VA team in 2006 and commenced his formal Certified Accountant study and training in 2007. He is yet another sportsman (but more active in sport than his colleagues!) and plays local football to a good standard. He would play semi-pro given the chance and is sure that he is good enough - at well over 6 feet tall he is certainly tall enough! His family roots are in the north of England, resulting in an unfortunate and otherwise unexplainable support for Bolton Wanderers FC!

Mary Stephenson M.A.A.T

Mary joined us in Summer 2008 and is AAT qualified. With a young family, Mary has found that her former interests of cycling, running and playing the piano have taken a back seat in recent years but she hopes to be able to find the time to rediscover them soon! In the meantime, she enjoys socialising with friends when time allows and she will doubtless now develop some sporting knowledge from the banter in the office!
